Ren (Chinese: meaning
"co-humanity")
OUR VALUES are the driving force behind all we do. We believe that BEING KIND and LOVING OTHERS is not only how you act, but also the practice of understanding how our choices impact other human beings.
In fact, the name Ren finds its meaning in the Confucian principle of respecting the humanity of other people and seeking to honor others before oneself.
LIVING WELL means caring for our bodies, minds, and souls as well those around us. This can be as simple as spending our money wisely; choosing products that honor the people who created them, prioritize our health, and protect the planet.
"ZERO WASTE" IS LARGELY UNATTAINABLE
Yup, we said it. It might be an unpopular opinion for a refill store but there it is. The ability to go completely zero waste is often contingent upon many factors that are out of our control; things such as the selection of local stores, access to transportation, availability of information, and much more. Plus, it sets people up to feel like they're failing if they end up with more than a mason jar's worth of trash at the end of the year.
WE PREFER TO SAY LOW WASTE.
Just because you can't completely cut plastic and waste out of your life doesn't mean you can't make a difference and live more sustainably. Start small (think whatever you run out of next, whether that's lotion or laundry soap) and keep it simple. Every little bit counts, and we're here to help. If you're like us, you'll find that making sustainable choices gets easier and easier as time passes. If all of us do the little that we can, we'll make a pretty big difference in the long run.
